Interview with Chelsea © J.M. Adele, 2017.

Chelsea:

*Sweeps into the restaurant looking gorgeous*

Mornin’. Isn’t it a beautiful day?

Jen:

Yes, it is.

Chelsea:

Can I get you anything? Coffee? Sweet tea? Tequila?

*Winks and waves to Beau who’s manning the bar*

Jen:

*nods*

Just a water, thanks.

Chelsea:

Oh, you’re an adventurous one. One water comin’ right up.

*Comes back with a water for Jen and a sweet tea for herself after talking to several people*

Here ya go. I love your dress, by the way.

*places drinks on the table and hands Jen a napkin*

Jen:

Thank you.

Chelsea:

So, where do we start?

*Takes a sip of her drink*

Jen:

Why don’t we start with Boston? How do you like living here?

Chelsea:

Oh, I love it. I have this awful yearnin’ for home, but this place has opened up so many opportunities for me. I can’t be thankful enough.

Jen:

What about Alabama? Do you plan on going back there some day?

Chelsea:

*Looks towards the door to the kitchen*

A few weeks ago, I would have said yes, absolutely. Now, I’m not so sure.

Jen:

What’s changed your mind? Or should I say who’s changed your mind?

Chelsea:

*Fiddles with the tablecloth*

Dane:

*Plonks into the chair beside Chelsea*

Aw, has my girl gone all shy?

Chelsea:

Butt out Dane.

*shakes head*

He’s such a spotlight whore.

Dane:

The answer to your question is definitely a who, and his name is Greyson. Do you want me to go and get him?

Chelsea:

*Sits up straight*

What!? No, Dane.

Jen:

That’d be great, thanks.

Chelsea:

*Scowls at Dane’s retreating back*

I should’ve specified the subjects that were off limits. Greyson is one of them.

Jen:

Why?

Chelsea:

*throws hands in the air*

Didn’t I just say I wouldn’t talk about him?

Jen:

Okay, then. How has it been moving into a share house?

Chelsea:

The girls are great. I’m not so sure about Ryan.

Jen:

Why?

Chelsea:

He can be a jerk sometimes.

Jen:

You don’t want to talk about him either, do you?

Chelsea:

Can we just not talk about men, in general?

*Eyes the door to the kitchen again*

Jen:

Done. So, what’s your greatest fear?

Chelsea:

Being in a position where I am dependent on a man.

Jen:

*Raises eyebrows*

Are we still talking about men?

Chelsea:

You asked.

*shrugs*

Dane:

*Sneaks up behind Chelsea*

Chelsea loves talking about men. It’s one of our favourite subjects.

Chelsea:

*Whips around in her chair*

Sweet Jesus, Dane! Would you go and look after the customers?

Dane:

Jenna’s got it all under control. We only have two parties left.

*claps hands and takes a seat*

So... men. Please continue.

Jen:

Chelsea was explaining how her greatest fear is being dependent on a man. I’m not sure whether she was referring to money or affection.

Chelsea:

Both.

Dane:

Truth is she crav—

Chelsea:

Shut your cake hole, Dane.

*Slaps a hand on the table*

Greyson:

Uh, is this a bad time to introduce myself?

Dane:

*Jumps up to pull out a chair*

Perfect timing.

Chelsea:

Unbelievable! Do you see why I don’t want to talk about them?

*Waves a finger between Dane and Greyson*

This was supposed to be my interview.

Dane:

*Ignores Chelsea*

Jen, this is Greyson. Leading candidate for hottest chef in Boston and next in line to be Chelsea’s significant other.

Chelsea:

*coughs*

Greyson:

*snickers*

Jen:

Extremely pleased to meet you.

*Shakes Greyson’s hand*

Greyson:

Likewise. Don’t let me interrupt you.

*Smiles at Jen then fixes his stare on Chelsea*

Jen:

*Clears throat and squirms in seat*

If you only achieve one thing in life what would you want it to be?

Chelsea:

*Fixes gaze on the glass ceiling*

For my family and friends to know how much I love them.

Jen:

Do you feel that you’ve already achieved that?

Chelsea:

*Chews on lips*

I think so.

*Flicks a sideways look at Greyson who is still staring at her*

Jen:

Can I ask you a question, Greyson?

Greyson:

Call me Grey, and yes, you can.

Jen:

What is your biggest fear?

Grey:

Being trapped in a life I don’t want.

Chelsea:

Like what?

Grey:

Small town, farm life.

Chelsea:

*drops eyes to the table, fiddling with the cloth again*

Jen:

And what is the one thing you’d like to achieve most in life?

Greyson:

Ownership of my own successful restaurant and acclaim as a top chef in the industry.

Chelsea:

Would you mind if we did this another time, Jen? I’m not feeling so great all of a sudden.

Jen:

Of course, no problem. Can I get anything for you?

Chelsea:

No, I’ll be fine. I’ll call you.

*leaves*

Greyson:

*scrapes his chair as he darts after Chelsea*

Dane:

Well, you managed to pick at their sore spots. Well done. Love is so complicated. Thank goodness I don’t have to worry about that.

*grins*

Would you like to interview me?

Jen:

*laughs*

I’m all good, thanks Dane.
